I don't post here much, although I hope that will change now that I can offer a lot more than just computer knowledge but here goes....
I've got 4 months left on a degree(Information Technology). Rather than just sit around all day, my mom and the gf have been pressuring me to find some work, at least part time. I casually searched for jobs through Craigslist and various other websites. I found a few interesting jobs but nothing I really wanted to do. 2 weeks ago, I sent an email to a local locksmithing company here in Atlanta, USA asking if they were interested in taking on any apprentices. Didn't hear a single thing until yesterday when the owner of the company himself emailed me and told me to visit him to discuss it. All went well and I'm starting tomorrow. Full apprenticeship (6,000 hours + full pay). Not sure as to whether I will be doing this 4 months from now but I will definitely consider it if it's something I enjoy doing. Nevertheless, my initial knowledge will be zero to none but over the next few weeks and months I hope to contribute to this particular forum. Anyone else doing a locksmith apprenticeship? Or has anyone ever done this? It'd be nice to hear experiences. Thanks. -Beyond |

Wow that's quite a skill change, from Computer ninja to locksmith. Hopefully the job won't interfere with the degree. Or maybe you'll figure out you prefer locksmithing more. Life is a journey and we can't always guess where it will take us.

hey congrats. I think more and more locks are becoming computer -ized, -controlled? Those bio scanners , eye, face, fingerprint locks.
I like the craftmanship of old locks, some clever stuff. |
