Are these feasible tools to use against modern day vending machines, washing machines, and the like?
I have heard more recent machines have additional lock protection against this kind of lockpick, (more specifically the one located one www.lockpicktools.com) any truth to this rumor? or is this a good tool to use against modern day machines? |

Tubular locks represent good, high-security solutions for cheap prices. High-security because most people don't posess or own tubular lock picks because of the whole price/availability dilemma.
You could, theoretically, use anything to manipulate the lock to pick it but none are as practical and fast as a tubular lock pick, that is, unless it hasn't be invented yet. As for the rumor, I haven't heard anything like that. What's the source of the rumor? |

just hearsay, and I am not too familiar with tubular locks. I kind of thought there would be additional security factors maybe like how pin tumblers have mushroom pins for more security.

They are. They're actually easier to pick than most pin tumblers with a tubular lock. The only reason that vending machines, etc. aren't constantly being picked and stolen from is the fact that a) the picks aren't available everywhere and aren't cheap ($80-$150), b) it's very hard to learn to pick correctly unless you have someone show you or have access to very good training materials (and I've looked online and there aren't many), and c) most vending machines are in public areas with cameras, individuals, etc. that would definitely know what you're attempting to do when picking it (unless you were able to dress up like the actual vending machine attendant, etc.).
That's not to say it doesn't happen because it does, just those factors are the primary reason it's not happening all the time. Not to mention, 16-18 year olds learning to lock pick are a dime a dozen. They get into it optimistically and think they'll pick anything. When they see it's harder than it looks they drop off and move on to a different hobby. |

Forgot to add, if you're looking to buy a tubular pick to knock off vending machines, if done right, it's a good investment. You're talking about an almost immediate payoff the first few time you knock off a machine.
You probably won't get access to the bills, depending on the machine, because those are stored in another vault all together within the machine (Although, I am not sure if this is a majority or minority, it's just what I have encountered on the higher end machines). That said, the coins are MAINLY quarters and a handful is $4-5 so the payoff is high considering the amount of effort and risk involved. If I were you (considering investing in one to steal from machines) I would invest in an 7 pin tubular lock pick. You can find them cheap online, look around. Then practice, practice, practice for a few months. You can get some cheap tubular locks to play with at home deport, or any home improvement store. Get good to the point that you can pick it within 3-5 minutes. Then, go out late at night to an area that a) dark and camera free and b) allows an easy route of escape. In other words, don't knock off one in front of a department store. Last edited by Beyond; 08-12-2007 at 04:08 AM. |

yea I was figuring there would be a separate container and lock for the bills or even the coins.
maybe I can score some free dorito's??? ha ha . regardless there's so many locks I see around me that are tubular so I might just pick one up for the heck of it |
