Default Large Hadron Collider.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing what they achieve with it on its first full run? People are predicting that it will cause micro black holes, but I can't really see that happening.

Anyone have opinions/views on it?

Wow I had never heard of this before. It sounds pretty cool!

For the uninitiated these articles might give you the gist:

Micro black holes are one of the goals..... It's going to make them almost for sure.

However, they are nothing to fear. They are small enough that they will evaporate in a fraction of a second as hawking radiation.

We're safe. If it were really dangerous, the aliens would have warned us by now.

Lol..

What happened New years Eve 2000?

Have a friend who was there when they first powered up.. He said all the lights in his hotel started flickering on and off. And that a somewhat complicated to use jacuzi/bathtub in the en-suite started up aswell.. :S

Anyone hear about the helium explosion? Two magnets melted and burst the cooling system. Will be at least a month before it will be up and running again. Pity
