Alternative smoke compositions

We all know of 60:50 KNO3 sugar but its kinda crap it just makes thin whispy white smoke while okay I do not think it is very good at all. I tryed a very simple experiment with similar resorces and made one with more black smoke which is much better the ratios were 5 sodium nitrate to 3 sugar thease are not optimum as it leaves nitrite beind which is also ulful.
SO any ideas for better smoke mixes.

and if u use pure alcohol to mix the zinc/sulfur into a slurry, it can then be made into a rocket fuel called "zincoshine",whilst wet, add it an inch at a time and allow it to dry out

chlorates and sugar works, not great, but enourmously cheap and easy if you can get chlorate weedkiller.

I was wondering whats in the smoke bombs you can buy, and what does the army use for their smoke?

I found the best smoke comes from 50/50 Kno3 and sugar melted

I have always preferred zinc smoke, as it is just awesome.
