Does anyone have any experience with these? I was always under the impression that KNO3/Su cant be used because it burns too hot, but the more I look online that more sources I find that say it can be used. Are just right or just a load of crap? If they can't be used, what would a good formula be? I heard KClO3/sugar/sulphur/NaHCO3 with 5% by weight of a low boling point analine dye added. Does this sound right to anyone?

Aparently and this is total hearsay Food Colouring or Dye cannot be used in KNO3/Sugar Smoke 'Bombs' and that the videos purporting to show a Coloured Smoke Bomb like this one are forged.

Various alkali metal salts burn with different colors, and produce different colors of smoke...

certain organic dyes work fine with KNO3/Sugar, however there is always the chance that the dye is burned/decomposed from the heat, which is why potassium chlorate is used. Go to a craft shop and get some dry powder dies, of different colors, try each with the KNO3/Sugar and the ones that don't turn out right should be tried with potassium chlorate.

Mm Most proper art supply shops will sell 500gms/kilo's of organic dye. Not too pricey for the use you'll get out of a bag.

But pricey enough that if the dye doesn't work you have wasted a lot of money.
