I'm pretty sure you're right NME, I mean most KNO3 based smokers burn with a lilac/purple flame but the smoke is ''white'' and If I'm not mistaken KClO3 + lactose + organic dye is used commercially.

Hmm. Lactose, anyone know where to get that? I can't imagine getting it from milk is a viable option.

An Idea that I would love for someone to try is golden powder and organic dyes, ascorbic acid(vit C) + KNO3, it should burn cool enough to disperse the organic dye without degrading it...I would try it myself but I'm poor and organic dyes are expensive.
Powdered milk is IIRC at the max 50% lactose...though you could probably get the melamine doped surplus Chinese milk for uber cheap now
I believe lactose is used to cut Heroin so maybe that's why commercial sources of it are few and far between.
