"Hacking"

This section is misleading in a standard use of the word.

The official word of Hacking is defined to be finding the problems for the good of the software. What this section should be named is Cracking which is illegal and what everyone does to get keygens and serial numbers and trojans and so forth. I just wanted to define what it really is and that we are not hacking, but we are cracking in a technical term. And sorry for the double thread.

Ok, first of all, without a source for your definition the definition is irrelevant. Second of all, according to the Kantian theory of defining reality, a definition is defined by it's common usage, thus your definition is flawed.

In other words the definition for certain words such as this is subjective. I could define justice as "conforming to fact or reason" or I could define justice as "in accordance to virtue". Both definitions are technically correct because they're found in reputable dictionaries, however clearly they conflict..thus it must be defined in the context that it's found matched to the common usage..

What's more this section isn't limited to simple cracking, it is welcome to post what you consider "hacking", however it is generally pretty boring, pointless stuff. Also cracking doesn't simply imply "cracking" a program, cracking can also be gaining unauthorized access to the file system of a computer, among many other destructive connotations.

Furthermore, this has been discussed to death on this board, and it generally annoys me. This is because the people that say this, are trying to appear intelligent by knowing this. The problem is generally these people don't know enough to be offended by this.

This section is for the discussion of Hacking as in utilizing computers and such in ways that they were not intended to be used...
That being said the definition of hacking is an extremely fought over term..

Wow! Death and S25 really have it. I would have to agree with Death though, "hacking" is defined by different people for different situations. Whatever you feel is "hacking", may or may not be defined similarly by others. It's also nice that you want to "share" some information, but please, don't try to criticize us.

I'll be agreeing with this. Hacking is what you make it, and here, it's things that are frowned upon by others.

I did not intend to criticize anyone forthmost. To where as i was just stating out a definition of a phrase.

I guess i have to agree with you s25 i'll be less literal. Plus Death i am not illiterate i am quite knowledgeable in most subjects as to if i am not in a thread i look it up to make sure my information is not false.
