Here is something - if done right can be worth a try. In the us, if you dial a bogus number a computer will answer after 2 rings and go bep, beep beeep, the number you are calling has been disconected or is no longer in service. -repeat
You record this on your answer machene and set it to answer after 2 rings so when someone calls they hear the message ect. |

I wonder if Dead's idea will work on the automated telemarketers. In other words, I know some companies will only give the call to a live operator when someone picks up, to avoid wasting human power on waiting for rings.
I wonder if the automated service will pick up on his "disconnected" signal and alleviate it from the list. In other words, I wonder if the automated service's algorithm accounts for call results like that and if so, what it does to correct them. Pure speculation on my part, I really know nothing about phones or companies like this. Just from experience, it would make sense for them to do something like this. After all, not many people would go through that trouble but that would make it's usage all the more ingenius in the given situation. |

Sorry I was going to elaborate on TPS but it skipped my mind. I worked in a call centre for a while, I'm not proud of it but I did.
Basically TPS is a opt out system, you request to be put on the list and after a couple of weeks it will be impossible for a call centre to call you as they get a message that is something like "the person you are trying to call does not wish to receive telemarketing calls". There are ways of them bending the rules but they wont push there luck as trading standards get very pissed off. Also this wont stop the really dodgy calls (unregistered telesales) but those company's are breaking so many rules you should tell your phone company, though could take a while to explain, you know what these call centres are like :P Last edited by Syrus; 13-11-2007 at 09:16 AM. Ya the box only works for landlines...Deads idea sounds plausible.. I'm akin to Beyond in wondering if 'twould work... I'm not sure if beyond meant what I'm about to say though or solely a 'human' telemarketing person: If it's a bot making the calls, chances are it wont be put off unless it's very smart... i.e. not some machine made by some prankster. Unless of course the operator were to check for himself and be fooled.. Edit: Cheers for that Syrus. Tis something we'll definitely consider should we experience problems again.
