I know... I just dont know what defines something as an op-amp. To me they all look the same...

op-amps are operation amplifiers, they are not a specific chip. In a 8 pin DIP ( same as an NE555 or 741 op-amp) you can have, a PIC, a motor controller, high voltage switch, magnetic sensor, floating point logic, logic, essentially anything.
