And nay, resistors in series are the sum of their values. In parallel they're 1/R1 + 1/R2

mm, the simple trick is, if they're 2 similar resistors in parallel they're halved. So 2 10 ohms become 5 ohms, so to get 0.5 ohm I'd need 2 1ohm resistors in parallel, also not easy to find, especially not wire wound.
